One Gas Senior Accountant in Austin, Texas

Position Description:

Experience in month-end close, audit inquiries, SOX compliance, regulatory filings, and a financial accounting background

Experience with Oracle ERP and Hyperion a plus

Prepares advanced level of various accounting and financial activities to ensure compliance with rules, regulations, and legislation; analyzes their effect on company finances and accounting procedures (as specified by position).

Analyze, prepare and/or review journal entries, records, account reconciliations, and reports. Analyze, prepare and/or review studies and recommendations in areas related to accounting or finance methods and procedures.

Supervise the development and maintenance of applicable programs used in finance, and other accounting activities.

Perform and/or review calculations and/or analyses including but not limited to:

Actual to forecast and historical period variance analyses

Share based accounting


Depreciations (book)

Financial ratios

Rate/tariff schedules

Derivative entries and disclosures



Cash flow

Consolidations / Eliminations

Assist employees compiling, verifying, and preparing a variety of financial information including but not limited to:

Actual to forecast and historical period variance analyses

Governmental/regulatory reports


Financial reports

Reconciliation reports

Quarterly income statements

Billing Revenues

Gas supply tracking and reconciliations

Cost of gas calculations


Advise employees from governmental and/or regulatory agencies, auditing firms, management, and others in areas that may include accounting procedures, various financial reports, billing adjustments, and reporting. Comply with Sarbanes Oxley and applicable Regulatory Requirements.

Make recommendations to improve overall processes and procedures departmental and companywide.

Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

Assist in the development, maintenance and usage of relevant applications for accounting and financial analysis activities.

Maintain proper documentation of activities to ensure business continuity and knowledge transfer among personnel.

Regular and reliable attendance is required in performance of job.

Employee may be required to perform additional duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

Minimum Bachelor's Degree Accounting

Preferred Master's Degree Business Administration preferred or equivalent formal education to include a combination of courses such as intermediate and advanced finance, financial accounting, business communications, computer sciences, business law, or composition

Experience with and/or thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, company financial accounting, and/or billing methods and procedures.

Experience with the application of math, advanced algebra, and statistics.

Experience in use and function of office equipment including computers and applicable software.

Experience and/or training related to:

Interpreting and explaining accounting standards and/or policies

Spreadsheets and word processing applications

Financial accounting and reporting standards and processes (specified by position)

Economic forecasting/modeling and corporate budget functions (specified by position)

Regulated accounting activities and terminology (as specified by position)

Experience analyzing, evaluating, and preparing studies and recommendations concerning impact of standards, regulations, and legislation on company finances and accounting processes.

Experience researching, composing, reconciling and preparing reports, studies, publications, and correspondence applicable to position.

Experience reading and interpreting company correspondence, reports, accounting-related publications, contracts, accounting software manuals, computer printouts, and legal documents.

Demonstrated collaborating, advising, and communicating effectively with internal and external customers.

Experience developing and presenting information to individuals and groups.

Demonstrated ability to read and write fluently in English.

Preferred Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Treasury Professional (CTP), or other relevant financial certification preferred.

Mobility to travel in and around office facilities system wide.

Communicate and/or exchange information or verbal instructions and conduct oral presentations.

Visual ability sufficient to perform job duties.
