Engineer I - Pipeline Systems / Engineering Services

PLEASE NOTE: This position can be based in either Manhattan or Topeka.

What You Will Do

Coordinate and perform a basic level of engineering activities.

Coordinate, assist, and perform engineering activities relative to the design, operation, and maintenance of company pipeline and storage systems and related facilities.

Assist with project coordination among area regions, departments (Customer Development, Operating, and Customer Services), and contractors including:

  • Bid proposals and contracts

  • Line extensions

  • Construction and relocation projects

Provide technical and/or engineering assistance to management, employees, governmental/regulatory personnel, contractors, customers, and others on matters including:

  • Meter and regulator settings

  • Equipment/system design

  • Pipeline sizes

  • Pipeline modeling

  • Database analyses

  • Growth planning

  • Emergency valve isolation plans for pipeline systems

  • Procedures

Review, summarize, and prepare information including but not limited to:

  • Engineering studies

  • Pipeline bid proposals

  • Construction contracts

  • Status/activity reports

  • Job orders

  • Purchase requisitions

Regular and reliable attendance is required in performance of job.

Employee may perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

What You Will Need

Preferred bachelor's degree in engineering

Working knowledge of piping plan standards and related governmental regulations. Demonstrated ability with application of math, algebraic formulas, calculus, and statistics.

Experience in use and function of office equipment including and software such as AutoCAD, Stoner, Excel, Access, and other relevant software.

Experience and training related to:

  • Customer services field procedures

  • Transmission/distribution pipeline operations

  • Company/governmental operating and safety procedures

  • Line extension and relocation policies and procedures

Identify, research, evaluate, and prioritize problems or specific situations and coordinate appropriate action/response.

Research and prepare pipeline construction contracts, pipeline capacity lease (PCL) requests, budget projects, job orders, material requisitions, engineering studies, and correspondence.

Read and interpret governmental regulations, blueprints, contracts, manuals, specifications, charts, surveys, load studies, and various reports and correspondence.

Interact, negotiate, advise, and communicate effectively.

Develop information and make presentations to groups and individuals.

Read and write fluently in English.

Preferred Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.

Minimum Applicable driver's license.

Mobility to travel in and around plant and office facilities and around job sites out of doors.

Operate tools and equipment required.

Communicate and exchange information; conduct oral presentations.

Visual abilities to perform job responsibilities.
